Do this people even KNOW who Sonic is? At NO point was Sonic ever depicted as "Responsible" He doesn't believe in killing. He understands that Life is precious, and only jumps into action when he knows it's the right thing to do. But he will NEVER think too hard on many things. He doesn't Sweat the details, he's a REACTIVE protagonist. Not a Proactive one. Notice how a LOT of his adventures start AFTER he has seen the effects, and not BEFORE. Sonic 1? The animals were already turned into Badniks. Sonic 2, same except the Death Egg was ALREADY fully constructed. Sonic 3, Knuckles attacks him believing him to be threatening the Sanctity of Angel Island and trying to reach the Crashed Death Egg and to retrieve the Chaos Emeralds that Knuckles took from him. He's not proactive. He's always reacting to what happens.

Sonic isnt someone to choose whats right or wrong ,but if you are free ,you can choose the right one yourself ,even if it seems like the wrong choice at first.

Still, after the metal virus, im surprised they even entertained the idea of letting Eggman go on living. The virus may be gone, but the trauma remains. And Eggman was one careless step away from ending all life just because he could do something he shouldn't have.

People say his answer was irresponsible and stupid but when I ask them does freedom make them happy they say yes sonic doesn't kill his enemies because he wants to give them a chance to be happy to be free I would also pick freedom cause that would make me happy

This is what ruined Sonic Forces for me. Eggman's practically conquered the world and tortured Sonic for six months and all Sonic can do is prattle on about the power of friendship. Once, just *once*, I want a game where Sonic gives Eggman what he deserves.

My head canon for prime is pretty accurate with eggman being in a mech so he doesn't get separated into shatter spaces but split and put in one

The thing you said about Shadow being a shadow of his beginning character, I don't exactly agree with that. People change over their years in life, and Shadow supposedly has an infinite number of years. SA2, he was awoken and still angry at the world for the massacre of the ARK. Shadow the Hedgehog game, he was finding out new info about his past from multiple different sources and didn't know what the hell he was and what he wanted to do. Sonic '06, he's moved on from his anger-filled days and his past and simply wants to use his skills and powers to keep the world safe even if it will cause some destruction. Sonic Heroes, well that's kinda just rehashing old storylines. And I didn't play Sonic Forces so idk about that storyline. And then at Sonic Prime, it's a more light-hearted show for kids of the current generation so there's bound to be more hijinks than actual high-stakes situations like he's usually in. Granted, Shadow might not have the best writers in the room, but I do believe the writers know what they're doing when it comes to adapting a certain character to fit a certain story. Sonic Prime is a perfect example to be honest because we now have a new meme of Shadow(and Sonic but you know what I mean). Like, okay, imagine if Shadow was a player character in D&D. He may have the exact same backstory and personality traits and everything, but are you really gonna tell me that the brooding rogue in the corner of the bar isn't gonna lighten up every now and then, play pranks on the party, open up in tender moments, or just genuinely have a bit a fun? Shadow isn't a one-sided character, that's literally what this video is saying, but Shadow can be happy and laid back sometimes. He just has a resting bitch-face. He's a furry Vegeta.

What's funny is when you drew the comparison between the trolley decisions and Miguel vs. Miles, I found that I was different between the two. I decide not to pull the lever, but side with Miguel. Probably because I view the two situations as fate vs. intervention instead of utilitarianism vs. deontology. With the trolley, the effect of not pulling the lever is the same whether you were at the control switch witnessing the trolley and deciding not to pull, or if nobody was there at all. Similar to Miguel's view of Spider-Man. The canon events are meant to be whether you like it or not, because without them, the results are not what makes Spider-Man.

I think every single Sonic/Knuckles fan can agree that the show could've used more focus on Knuckles, but setting that fact aside and watching the show it for what it is, I really enjoyed it. There were so many times I burst out laughing between Wade's daydream of rescuing knuckles like a secret agent and Wade riding Knuckles. The E.T. and Never Ending Story homages were a hoot! I'm still on the fence of episode 4 with the whole "Low-budget, Rock Opera" thing, but it has grown on me.

I really like this and wholeheartedly agree. Freedom is the best happiness you can have, because you yourself chose it and worked and earned it. If you are “given happiness” but without choice does that really matter? No. This made me realize why Heroes saving people is so important to being heroic, because then it gives the villain an opportunity to redeem their selves. If someone were to force you and everyone to do right, then who’s to say that’s the right way? But if we all choose to live in harmony that’s much better as we have made peace with them and ourselves.

not personally a fan of ian flynns writing usually (like a lot of his comic panels are absolute text walls and he tends to be a bit too referential which is a more general issue with the series post generations) and while i do disagree with his stance of "don't take it seriously it's for kids" because well, you introduced them if you didn't want readers to think about it why did you write an open ended argument into your story? he just sorta ignores writing within restrictions leading to weird characterisations like sonic gaslighting shadow to protect mr tinker is a really good example of this. that said, i do really like the more mature sonic take in recent years, he genuinly feels like he's grown as a character from his experiences and seeing redemption arcs like shadow when he doesn't fully know their backstory it makes sense why he would take on a batman esque stance on killing his foes with respect to his freedom loving attitudes of old. he's pretty much a freedom absolutist where you have a right to do what you want but i have the right to disagree and prevent it in kind. obviously this stance isn't perfect, again so many stories in batman focus on his no killing rule from red hood to injustice but in the case of sonic i personally think it works better because while he's hesitant to kill, he will once he sees no other option which for an entity which can destroy literal gods is probably the best stance one can take, it's a lot better than "if i cross the line i can never turn back" which dc loves to push, this falls more in line with the older all life is precious and not wanting to tear any families apart like his own was. quite a bit fitting noting eggmans still alive, the one time they could have killed eggman sonic didn't think he was a threat as mr tinker. which again does show the character flaw and i can see what ian was going for with his gaslighting of shadow, but where shadow was manipulated and traumatised into being evil, eggman is the manipulator and traumatiser and the two had completely different motives so it just felt like a violation of the comradery the two had formed post shadow the hedgehog, sonic was always a static character and with the implied life experience he should have known better. enough complaining about early idw yeah no ideology is perfect, the best you can do is try your best and move forwards and that is the wisdom sonic embodies the most. surprisingly i think sonic primes third season opener shows this characterisation the best between both sonic and shadow, both clearly upset about their one oportunity to save their friends now being gone while pushing eachother forwards, shadow holding his rant to save his remaining friend and urging sonic to push through the pain to escape and sonic despite being extremely reluctant to fight nine, steps forward to help shadow defeat him but after giving nine one last chance to stand down. i honestly do just want to make a gush video about that episode cause its the kind of comradery we haven't gotten since archie and only shown in game for sonic 06 of all games for it to be in lol

I think an over-looked part of sonic's character is that he just isn't a textbook hero, he's a protagonist and that doesn't mean good guy. Even though this is a spin-off game, sonic and the black night best shows this, with a scene of merlina telling sonic that killing king arthur will paint him as a villain but sonic responds with "Guess I can't be the hero every time!" This is THE best version of sonic in my eyes.

Sonic isn’t a moral hero. If he ever actually did become a moral hero, he’d stop being the Sonic we know. It’s kinda like Batman, except Batman’s self righteous and hypocritical. Sonic’s the real deal, because his ideal is freedom, not justice.

End his enemies once and for all? Who are these fans who think that Sonic is an authoritative killer? He’s the living embodiment of freedom, not from consequences, but he takes those consequences with the freedom.
